Seafarming Systems selects Moleaer technology for new Aquatraz cages

May 18, 2026 Seafarming Systems has chosen Moleaer's nanobubble technology as the oxygenation solution for the
company's six closed Aquatraz cages, which are set to be completed at the end of 2026. The choice marks an important step forward in the development of sustainable and closed production solutions for the aquaculture industry.

The Aquatraz concept has been developed to meet future requirements for fish welfare, biosecurity, and environmental sustainability. The closed cage solution, with a volume of 70,000 m³ and 3x water exchanges per hour, combines robust construction with advanced water treatment and a controlled production environment, providing better control over sea lice, emissions, and other biological conditions. The concept has been developed with the goal of enabling more sustainable food production at sea, while also maintaining both operational efficiency and fish welfare.

To ensure optimal oxygenation in the facilities, Seafarming Systems will use Moleaer's proven and effective submersible nanobubble generators, known as Freya.

"The choice of Moleaer was made in close collaboration with our customers, where several different oxygenation technologies were evaluated, and based on existing experience, Moleaer came out on top. Their technology has demonstrated a very high transfer efficiency rate for oxygen, while the company also possesses significant expertise and experience from demanding aquaculture projects. Their solution is easy to scale within Aquatraz, which gives our customers confidence that the system can be tailored over time to suit different locations and densities," says Lasse Hiller at Seafarming Systems.

Moleaer is the global leader in nanobubble technology, delivering solutions that improve oxygen transfer efficiency, water quality, and energy efficiency across a range of applications including aquaculture, wastewater treatment, irrigation, surface water restoration. The technology generates stable nanobubbles that enable more efficient oxygen transfer and support stable operating conditions compared to conventional oxygenation approaches.

"Seafarming Systems represents some of the most innovative work we see in modern aquaculture. The Aquatraz concept combines solid engineering expertise with a clear sustainability vision, and we are proud to contribute technology that enables more controlled and sustainable closed production at sea," says Inge Haarberg at Moleaer.

The collaboration between Seafarming Systems and Moleaer shows the growing commitment to technological development and sustainable production methods in the aquaculture industry.
