Patented process helps wastewater facilities overcome biological inhibition to process higher organic loads, improve stability and get more from existing infrastructure

September 22, 2026 –  Moleaer, the global leader in nanobubble technology, today announced a U.S. patent for a process that uses nanobubbles to reduce biological inhibition in anaerobic treatment, enabling facilities to process higher organic loads and increase biogas production with existing infrastructure.

Biological inhibition from compounds such as surfactants, fats, oils and grease (FOG) and quaternary ammonium compounds (QACs) can suppress methanogenic activity, limiting treatment capacity and biogas production. Moleaer’s patented process reduces the effects of these inhibitors, helping stabilize anaerobic biology and improve the conversion of organic load into biogas.

Moleaer's Nanobubble Technology protects the biomass at the heart of anaerobic digestion, improving the performance of systems that facilities already own — increasing capacity, reducing chemical use, generating more clean gas and avoiding costly hauling, re-seeding or infrastructure expansion. Moleaer provides this patented process through its Nanobubbles as a Service (NaaS) performance-based contracts that ties payment to verified results

Treatment plants shouldn’t have to choose between increasing production and making a major wastewater capital investment,” said Nick Dyner, CEO of Moleaer. “We’re helping operators get more productive treatment from the anaerobic infrastructure they already own by processing more organic load, recovering more energy as biogas and removing wastewater as a constraint to growth.”

At Meister Cheese Company in Wisconsin, Moleaer’s technology reduced the inhibitory effects associated with QACs, FOG and other compounds introduced through clean-in-place (CIP) processes. The facility increased biogas production by more than 30% and recovered treatment capacity to support approximately 54% higher organic loading, while eliminating high-strength wastewater hauling and avoiding approximately $10 million in planned wastewater CAPEX.

The technology has also demonstrated results across other low- and high-rate anaerobic systems. At a food manufacturing facility in the Midwest, Moleaer’s technology supported a 29% increase in COD loading and 38% increase in flow while maintaining consistent effluent quality and eliminating the need to reseed the biological process following its annual CIP event.

At a global beverage production facility using a high-rate anaerobic system, Moleaer’s technology increased COD loading capacity by 9%, methanogenic activity by 25% and biogas production by 18%, while eliminating multiple annual sludge reseeding events.

The technology easily integrates into existing municipal digesters and industrial wastewater treatment systems without modifying anaerobic reactors or major process equipment, providing facilities another way to increase treatment capacity and biogas production while avoiding costly infrastructure expansion.

The patent expands Moleaer’s growing intellectual property portfolio around the integration of nanobubble technology into wastewater treatment processes and follows the company’s recently patented process for improving polymer performance during sludge dewatering.
